Video: How to Dress for Kayaking
This short 4-minute video provides an introduction to the different weather and water situations to consider when dressing for kayaking. It briefly touches on wetsuits, drysuits, spray skirts, fabric and more including common sense advice on practicing capsize recovery techniques. Although not an in-depth video on the subject, it covers the broad spectrum of things to wear when you're out paddling.

The Canoe Pack Barrel
Kevin Callan discusses the iconic Canoe Pack Barrel in his latest article. The origins of the barrel go back to the mid-1980s with one of Bill Mason's canoeing buddies and has since evolved to a trusty, waterproof gear and food transporting device for expeditions. Kevin also adds tips for buying a barrel and has a video that demonstrates his own homemade barrel pack.

In The Same Boat
Rice has a place in backcountry menus. But regular rice takes a long time to cook, and "instant" rice just doesn't measure up. Now, however, there's a third alternative: packaged precooked rice. It's rice in a hurry for paddlers on the go. Could it be the rice you've been looking for? This week, in "Heat-and-Eat," Tamia weighs the pros and cons. Check out In the Same Boat to see where she strikes the balance.

Product Review Spotlight
Pack Canoe by Old Town
Worked like a charm in a fairly high wind situation while I was sitting on the canoe seat and using a double-bladed kayak paddle. Really happy with it so far. Only a mild sensation of tippiness that quickly goes away after a little paddling around... Rating 10 of 10 by eqlzr
