Highly recommended for a premium bent shaft!
After receiving and reviewing the Bending Branches A Series Limited in 2014 (loved it!), I was excited to receive my new BB Sunburst 14 in 48" length. As with all Bending Branches paddles that I have used, I am amazed at the handcrafted quality of this one. Blending a T-700 carbon fiber shaft with beautifully handcrafted blade and grip makes for a super lightweight, ergonomic, beautifully efficient paddle (mine weighs in at a mere 14 ounces). The standard 14 degree bend works perfectly for my hit-and-switch style of river paddling.

This paddle provides enough power to paddle upstream on my home river, the lower MO River and offers plenty of control. Although not as light as some ZRE paddles, the Sunburst 14 is the lightest, most efficient paddle that I have ever used, highly recommended if you are in the market for a premium bent shaft.

In short, I believe that BB has hit another home run with this particular paddle. I can't wait to try the Sunburst 14 XL, which will provide even more power on those upriver jaunts that I have become fond of. In addition, BB customer service is outstanding, always willing to answer questions and offer help. 10 out of 10!

I just returned from a 500 plus mile trip down the Back River in Nunavut. Last year I used the Bending Branches Sunburst ST paddle on the Hood River in Nunavut. It was so good that I bought a Sunburst 14 for this year's trip down the Back. I used the straight blade for rapids, and the bent shaft for flat water. I turned 67 on the trip, so I needed every advantage I could find to keep up with the youngsters. I felt that these paddles helped me a lot. After long hours of paddling, the paddles never felt like a heavy burden to use. They are light, strong, and the shafts are stiff. I wondered about such high tech paddles on a long wilderness trip in challenging rapids. But these paddles took all I gave them, and there are only some minor scratches in the varnish to show that they were used at all. The only negative comment I heard about my paddles came from an Inuit that picked up the Sunburst 14 and said that someone had been paddling too hard and had bent the paddle. We all had a good laugh. It was obvious that even though he had never seen a bent shaft before, that paddle was in good condition.

My friends and I are sold on these beautiful, light weight paddles for trips up north. I highly recommend the Bending Branches Sunburst paddles!

I'll bet that I'm not alone in believing what great paddles Bending Branches designs. I have two of their beautifully made Sunbursts and I could not be more pleased. These particular paddles are feather light at 15 to 17 oz. . Not to mention how beautiful they are.

I just can't believe how such a thin piece of wood can be so unbelievably strong. I loaned one of mine to a foolish (but like able) friend. He's no lightweight and a bit clubby, I thought I might have a heart-attack when I noticed that he had laid the Sunburst down on the grass and was unknowingly standing right on the middle of the blade. He and I carefully looked at the blade and there were no cracks not the slightest damage.

I have contacted Bending Branches with minor questions from time to time and their customer Service representatives could not have been more kind and helpful. Even had their customer service lead answer the phone once and Margaret was just super.

They do repair work and I've had them even replace a blade. The cost was unbelievably minimal I would have spent more to have repaired it Myself. The paddle was returned and I could absolutely not tell it from new.

You just can't go wrong with bending Branches. You won't be sorry.

I found the paddle I wanted to try on a web site: The BB Espresso 14. When I got to my local shop they were all out of them so when I picked up the Sunburst 14 degree bent shaft paddle; I instantly fell in love with the weight of the paddle. I never used a paddle this light or this expensive. Now that I had it out on the water I will never use another cheap or strait shaft paddle on flat water. I'll save the cheap ones for the river. When I gave it to my son to try, he seemed to have more power and less spray on the end of his strokes.
