Submitted: 07-25-2001 by EW The OT Guide 147 is awesome. I got the best possible canoe for the least amount of money. It tracks well, even in a cross breeze; it's easy to use solo; and it's spacious. It's initial stability is poor but secondary stability is phenomenal. I took it down a creek to the Ohio river and was pounded by wakes of powerboats, the Guide hardly rocked; I felt very safe. The main drawback is it's weight. I mostly paddle solo so cartopping and portaging 74 pounds spread over 14 feet by myself is no fun. I would love a lighter canoe of oltonar/royalex but couldn't make that financial commitment at this time. I think it's an excellent introductory canoe. Bully for Old Town. |
